I'm working for a company that's currently overhauling its evaluation process, and one of the things we're trying to do is combine our 32- and 64-bit MSI installers into one package. I saw that on stack overflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1922259/how-to-implement-single-installer-for-32-64-platforms), this question had already been asked and the answer was "not possible"-that I would have to use a bootstrapper to combine the two MSI's. That question was answered in 2009, though; has this changed since?
