Hrm, the dialog box does not seem to trigger it.

Also, I noticed that if I put all my firefox windows at the bottom right,
and then quit (save firefox session), then start firefox up and click to
place all the windows, once the last window has been placed, they rearrange
themselves back to the bottom right.

so the rearrange thing is probably the session loading windows placements.

annoyingly, it doesn't seem to remember minimised states. but that is
probably a firefox-ism ?

a related side-note, i am writing a program with fox-toolkit, and I have
just noticed that it does not allow me to click-place the window.
I used
apt-cache rdepends libfox-1.6-0
and found that musicmanager uses fox toolkit
so i aptitude install musicmanager
and then ran it with
gmm

and - confirmed it does not allow me to click-place it.

fox-toolkit example programs will probably demonstrate this too...
