I've been following the discussion with interest, and I'd like to offer
a suggestion that's been rolling around in my mind. Rather than adding
stuff to the windowmaker distfiles, why not create a new package with
just the dockapps?
FWIW, several of the apps that are being discussed won't even run on
FreeBSD, and amongst our users that use windowmaker they likely have
their own favorites already. So if dockapps were including in the
windowmaker distribution I would almost certainly disable them in our
port. However, I'm sensitive to the argument that nowadays windowmaker
is considered a bit too bare bones, so I could theoretically add an
option to pull in another port that included some nice default apps that
work on FreeBSD.
