Guidelines for compiling on RHEL6?

At work, they *finally* allowed me to have a Linux desktop, *but* it  
has to be RHEL6 (RedHat Enterprise Linux) of course.  Pbfffttttt...

I downloaded the Windowmaker source and of course I'm running into 
library issues.  configure bitches about not having X11 devel libs.

So I'm looking for guidelines / suggestions on how to compile 
Windowmaker under RHEL6.
