[redeye] Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Studios to begin layoffs
Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Studios, which announced plans in March to relocate from Chicago to the West Coast, will begin laying off its 183 employees next month.
The studio, which opened in 1990 to house Winfrey's eponymous talk show and other programs, notified the state that layoffs at the West Loop campus would begin Dec. 11 and will be completed by April 1. The layoff schedule was detailed in a monthly report released Wednesday by the state's Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
