But, along with many others, I am giving them the thumbs up for their decision to do so. I grew up in a generation that witnessed the proliferation of dirty tabloids and "titillating" films, all done in the name of freedom. But while these artists are so busy expressing themselves, I earn the lustful stares, the "tsansing," and even the danger of being raped by men whose lust has been ignited by such freedom. I take a taxi and find the driver reading between green lights a sensually stirring column in some tabloid, and I wonder if I would make it home safely. I get home and turn on the TV, and I see news about a grandfather raping his own granddaughter after watching a "titillating" film. I go out on the street to buy something from the convenience store, and what do I hear? Children -- no older than 10 years -- are singing malicious songs and dancing and laughing their heads off. There is no question: This kind of art can so corrupt the minds of people. Artists involved in this kind of industry exercise freedom of the press at my expense, at the expense of those poor rape victims, and at the expense of corrupted young minds whom we often call "the hope of the future.� They earn their thousands and reap their millions of pesos while they leave a trail of damage that no amount of money can ever repair. If they can have their freedom, what about mine? What about the others'? I am glad that SM management is taking the risk and setting the standard not to show R-18 films in its cinemas. I do not want my children to grow up in a morally corrupt environment. Who does? But wait a minute, did I just mention the words "morally corrupt"? Am I talking about morality here? Oh no. There's that word again, morality. Who wants to talk about it? I do. I am talking about it. I believe it's high time we talked about -- and did something about -- uplifting the morality of this nation. We are, after all, the only Christian nation in Asia.
