Accountability

Just yesterday, I was talking to a friend who mentioned accountability… what a word!  Not everybody understands what it truly means… as for me, I still have a hard time explaining what it is, especially to one of my bestfriend who still has questions about what a small group is (in the setting of our Christian life).

We just discussed this in our Leadership group today and made me realize that we have different ways of expressing this into action… just like our different styles of leadership… but that’s another topic… I don’t want to discuss leadership styles right now…hehehe…

Actually, the first question should be:  Who Am I accountable to?  I think this is easier for me to explain… well, I’ll try my best…

First and foremost, I am accountable to God, next would be my family.  Since I am still single, that would mean to my parents and brother and sister (not for long…diba Lord, bibigyan mo na ako ng Godly wife bago ako maging kasing tanda ng… hehehe, small group leader ko… hahaha! Just joking po… you know I love you po… na miss lang po naming ikaw sa LG…).

Next would be my friends… God has given me many friends, and He has given me REAL FRIENDS who gives me sound and just spiritual guidance.

I have a number of real friends who can talk to me and discern if I am ok or not… yung dati ko nga na leader (but I do consider him as my very first cel leader), isang tingin lang, alam na agad kung meron akong problem or if I’m okay.  I think he was given by God a strong discerning spirit (lahat naman tayo meron nun kaya lang yung kanya ang lakas) coz he knows when somebody is not walking in the right path or not…

Going back, my friends keep me reminded of our job… which is to reach out and spread the Word of God to all nations (again, another topic… ask your smallgroup leader kung hindi nyo alam ito… on second thought, sabihin nyo sa akin sino leader nyo at gigisingin ko lang!)  My Friends also would kick me in the butt (not physically for sure…kasi pag ginawa nila yun, sasakit lang paa nila…hehehe) just to bring me back to the right path… sometimes, we all tend to stray from the path kasi… and they do this even if I ask them or not.

We all have hang-ups kasi… these are areas in our lives na medyo di pa nating kaya magisa… and pag hindi na correct ito, it would only hinder our spiritual maturity and growth…

Sometimes, being a leader would mean that we need to check on our small group members… and when we find something really annoying, we sometimes get angry (lalo na kung paulit ulit naman yng problem diba… sinabihan na kasi, pero ang tigas ng ulo!).  Even if we are angry, we tend to think that we are justified in correcting them, pero minsan kasi… masakit na tayo magsalita… (ehem, sino ba guilty sa ganito… aminin na natin… lahat tayo!).  We really don’t know it but we have offended so much the person… that is where accountability comes in… people telling us that we have done something we need to keep on doing or something that we need to change… got it?

Accountability also is important because we need people around us in whom we could pour our heart out.  These are men (syempre lalake ako eh… pero para sa mga sis natin na single pa, sa women kayo po) in my life that knows me inside and out… even all those good and bad times!  They help me find the way… the way to the restaurant…hehehe… joking…seriously, they help me find the right path, the path where God wants me to be!

I hope that this paragraph has helped in showing what accountability is… if everything is still vague, ask your small group leader na… antok na ako eh…

I would also just like to share my heartfelt appreciation to the following:  Thank God for these men in my life…one is my small group leader who has back pains today (bro, we prayed for you… we claimed that you are healed… and as for those na nagtatanong, back pains nya is caused by something else and not old age…hahaha!) second is my manong (you are the best manong that anyone can ask!!!)… third is one of my bestfriend… my great grand daddy (and leader naming lahat… the smartest of them all! This man has a lot of great ideas…c’mon dude… keep on sharing!!!)… forth is one of the most patient guy I knew (he even helped me and my brother with our laptop!)… fifth would be my bestfriend that they say na favorite ko, I guess they are right coz naging spoiled na yata (but that would change for sure coz God won’t allow it…hehehe).  Sixth would be my bestfriend who plays the guitar for God! (Grabe, ang galing nitong kaibigan ko na ito…sobrang talented… ang sarap pang kausap coz I learn a lot from him, kahit hindi nya alam!).  Seventh would be one of my closest friend, anak ng brother ko sa small group…sobrang galling rin nito sa computer, especially with data base and excel files… ahhh syempre pati kapatid ko kasama sa mga ito… kilala naman ng lahat kung sino sino sila right… so to all you who I have mentioned here… Thank you very much for being part of my spiritual growth!  I know that God blesses us all!
