It is the story of William WIlberforce, one of the great heroes of the faith,
who fought for the abolition of slavery in Europe.
It also features John Newton, the man behind the famous hymn, which is the
film's title.
See if you can spot him in the trailer.
Hollywood is churning out quite a number of great films which are unashamedly
Christian in theme and substance. They are also using quite big name stars
("Amazing Grace" features Ioann Gruffuld, the man who plyed King Arthur in the
latest film of the same title, as well as Mr. Fantastic in the Fantastic Four
movie, the big-budget sequel of which is scheduled to come out this year!) This
is due largely to the commercial success of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the
Christ".
Let us pray that more films will follow suit, and capture the imaginations of a
whole new generation for whom "the oldest books (and stories!) are still just
'hot off the press'"! And let us support this film when it is released.
