You "didn't hear a word from me" because I my protests are elsewhere.
And I don't think silence is effect, or at least only for an email list
discussion which for me is way beside the point - Alan

Dear Alan,
Thank you for your response. Big Bridge has always been a vehicle for
dissent. When I put up "Language of War and Peace" or" Blue Poets in a
Red State" at Big Bridge, political installations that allowed for a lot
of talking, I didn't hear a word from you. Silence is effective here,
and active here, because it has gotten a response from you and many
others.
Everything is not what it seems.

anyway... I think this sort of
protest - which was common during the Vietnam War era - is precisely the
wrong sort of thing to do. It gives in to our enemies. It's passive. It's
ineffectual. It is so much more important to give a voice to culture -
stopping a press, covering artworks with black cloth etc. - simply gives
in, as if the culture wars were already won by them. Instead why not use
Big Bridge as a vehicle of dissent? of dissemination? Of voter organiza-
tion? Please reconsider this; it does nothing but give in, I think.
