I think what Kornel meant (with some possible elucidations from me) was that XML/XSLT, while theoretically can be sent directly to the client, in practice is unreliable do to lack of support or incompatible support. The only reliable way to do transformations from XML to XHTML today is to do the transformations server side and send the client only the final XHTML product.
