xStandard is a fantastic component and I absolutely swear by it if you want
to allow users to post clean xhtml into a database or generate clean static
xhtml pages. It truly is a god send for anyone who has had to worry about
validating code input and that's only with the lite version.

I believe the pro version allows for easy uploading of images and has a few
other good features (can't remember offhand) but requires the installation
of a service that runs on your server. That may not be possible for most
people. (not sure but I would assume it's IIS only as these guys seem to be
more geared towards Microsoft technologies - feel free to clarify)

As for comparison between Dreamweaver MX and xStandard, they are completely
different things. I use dreamweaver to build the framework of a site and
build xStandard into the cms to allow users to post content that will not
break pages (either validity or structural layout). It is perfect for
systems that require users to post large amounts of information including
images and styled headings etc. whilst still maintaining valid xhtml strict.

I found it most useful in a situation where I had to allow users to post
their news articles to a site. They can simply copy and paste directly from
word into the xStandard interface in their cms and it generates all <p></p>
tags automatically. This saves us having to do the scripting ourselves and
can be rolled out in next to not time at all.

Oh yeah, xStandard works great using mozilla and ie. I've only tested on
those browsers and they have just updated so both can be called using the
object type attribute and load much faster than before.

I don't work for them I promise! :)

No seriously I don't. I just love this component, saved me a lot of
headaches.

Apples and oranges: DW is a standalone application that you run on your
machine, while x-standard is a browser-based plugin (which, as far as I
remember, uses ActiveX, thus limiting it to IE/PC) that you drop into
your backend CMS pages in lieu of a big textarea for authors to type in
their HTML code...
