If its Lynx you're concerned with, then it will make little difference; normally the text will simply show up as slightly brighter, or in reverse video--and thus not bold nor italic. Its probably more a case of being consistent with your use of B and I for the rest of your site. Leading characters, or making it all uppercase would equally be appropriate.

If you're more worried about screen readers, then I would see whether which vocal emphasis seems to be more appropriate; I presume a leading character would be a disservice here.

Lynx current navigation state presentation
Hi there,

LYNX CURRENT NAV STATE PRESENTATION
Regarding feedback provided by  ¸ukasz, to the use of <em> vs <i> elements in Lynx...

I *use* <i> and <b>. CSS has nothing to do with it.

Does anyone have a preference/recommendation for how the currently selected navigation state should be presented in Lynx? Is it using a leading ASCII character, <b> or <i> element?

Cheers,
