To improve the look of it for the client I have added some javascript which hides the buttons and uses onclick events on the labels so that the submit button doesn't need to be clicked.
I've done something somewhat similar recently, and found this was finally an excuse to use the noscript element. Try sticking your submit button inside a noscript instead of hiding it with javascript.
