I don't where Nick is from, but part of the explanation in our case is hits from computer labs on campus. The biggest set of labs have IE, Firefox and Safari but Chrome is not in the build.
I would humbly suggest that a blog site for geeks will naturally get lots hits from the latest cutting-edge whatever.
