Alt text does become visible when the image has yet to, or has failed, to load. In which case it is most certainly worthy of consideration. I believe (in most browsers?) this text will inherit any font attributes assigned to the IMG tag or it’s parents. On the other hand you have absolutely no control over the display of the title attribute. It doesn’t even increase in size when fonts are enlarged!
