STROKE CARE

Stroke Care is an award winning registered charity based in Southwark, London. Its work focuses on prevention of strokes by working closely with other agencies to raise awareness in local communities, as well as rehabilitation services and support to improve the quality of life of those affected by stroke, and other related debilitating ill health.

VISION

That every person affected by stroke and debilitating ill health, has access to the best support and care they need to ensure the highest quality of life, wherever they live in the UK and world-wide.

MISSION

To raise awareness of stroke and provide information, advice and services that enhances the quality of life for those affected by long-term debilitating ill health.

VALUES

Stroke Care works to the core values of respect and care. These define our priorities, both in the way we deal with others at work and our service users. These values have helped the charity to grow from small beginnings into the organisation it is today. The power of these values lay in how the organisation employs them throughout its work, which in turn helps to enrich both staff and clients lives and helps differentiate Stroke Care from its competitors.

As the charity continues to grow, the aim is to keep these values at the heart of Stroke Care’s philosophy and day-to-day work; helping to ensure it offers the highest level of service; delighting its service users and surpassing expectations.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Stroke Care’s strategy consists of three core goals, which come together to help the organisation form a balance range of support to improve the lives of people affected by stroke, other debilitating ill health and their families and carers

Title: about strokecare-charity-southwark

FAY HALL, CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND FOUNDER OF STROKECARE

Stroke Care, established in May 2002, by the founder and current CEO, Fay Hall, supported by a group of liked minded people. She identified serious gaps and inadequacies in support and information available to people affected by strokes, their carers and/or relatives.

The organisation was set up to provide a service to vulnerable, elderly and isolated people living with strokes and long term conditions, their families and carers to improve the quality of life and living standards, with an emphasis on the Black Minority and Ethnic communities, (BME). As these groups are at high risk.

The organisation registered as a charity in 2004 and has since raised almost £100,000 to deliver support services to local people in the London Boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.

In the last 18 months, the organisation has been successful in gaining investment to deliver a range of services, with its annual turnover growing from just under £10,000 to just under £40,000. However, there has been a pattern of growth and then retraction in terms of turnover in the last few years. This is mainly due to insecurity of various funding streams and lack of resources to balance the maintenance of a thorough income generation programme, while delivering the direct services to those in need in the community.

With the successful recent income generation, the organisation has been able to recruit new staff to support the CEO. As some of these funding streams are for up to three-years this will ensure the organisations can build up solid evidence of outcomes, which will in turn help the team to prove their models and secure further investment in the future.

Stroke Care aims to continue to build on this momentum, by developing our strategy in the first instance, to provide stability and solid foundations from which to secure new partnerships and investment in order to grow and meet the needs of many more people in the community.
