The bad task bar icon issue could indeed be due to a corrupted icon cache
database.  As Bill suggested you can probably delete that file and have the
system rebuild it ... but I'm thinking that you may not be able to delete it
because its open in the Windows Explorer process.

If that's the case - try these steps:

- open a command prompt
- using task manager or taskkill command kill the explorer.exe process
- delete the iconcache.db file - it is hidden - look in %localappdata%
- shutdown and reboot the system use this command
  shutdown /r /t 0

the icon cache will be rebuilt upon startup ...
