Hi Keith,

WSJT-X v1.4 is still a work in progress as far as rig control is
concerned with many new features still to be tested on many rigs.
Normally issues can be resolved quickly, in fact they may already have
been since many defect fixes have been completed and yet unreleased.

Here is an installer DMG for a version that has rig control trace
logging built in:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4192709/wsjtx-1.4.0-rc3-Darwin-r4878-int-CAT-trace.dmg

You don't need to install it to run the following test as you can run it
direct from the installer DMG. Please do the following short test:

1) Open the disk image - there is no need to install the WSJT-X app -
just leave it where it is
2) In "Settings->Radio":-
set the "Rig" to "Icom IC-7000",
set your CAT serial port, baud rate etc.,
make sure "Force Control Lines" DTR and RTS are unchecked,
       set "PTT Method" to "CAT",
       set "Mode" to "USB"
       set "Split Operation" to "Rig"
3) Click "OK",
4) Select a band from the band drop down on the main screen,
5) Control+click on the waterfall at least 500Hz away from the current
Tx (red) cursor,
6) Exit WSJT-X.

This version will create a trace log file called
"$TMPDIR/WSJT-X_trace.log", please send me the file for analysis.

Because of the trace logging this version is not really suitable for
general usgae but once and defects have been resolved I can send you a
fully functional version for general use.

Referring to your other requests:

1) The logging window may be opened at any time by clicking the "Log
QSO" button.

2) Most users run on Windows and use the excellent add on JTAlert which
does the lookups an far more that you suggest. Unfortunately it is
written using Windows proprietary tools and is not currently available
on any other platforms. It is difficult to justify development effort
that would be a duplication of Laurie VK3AMA's work with JTAlert, maybe
if a few more Mac and Linux users request a multi-platform version of
JTAlert he will be persuaded to do the porting work.

3) Others have mentioned this also, again there is much crossover with
JTAlert. My current feeling is that the very basic country lookup
ability of WSJT-X needs a lot more work on it and adding a setting
ability for indicator colours might be "fiddling while Rome burns".
