All else being equal the way widgets get expanded by layout managers is 
determined by their stretch factors. The numbers are arbitrary but given 
three widgets in a row the one with the largest stretch factor will be 
given more space than the next and so on.

This may be what is causing the issue. Try giving the decodes widget a 
vertical stretch factor of 2.
