I think that John, K5XL reported some interesting and pertinent data here:

He clearly detected the change to a more aggressive bias. His rate of 40 or so 
out of 60000 is about 7x10^-4  - a factor of 3 or 4 smaller than the -31dB SNR 
simulation for the pre-fano-fix case, which was 25/1000 or 2.5e-3. (I am 
defining P_bad_decode as number of bad decodes divided by total number of 
decodes.) 

John was using version r5499 which I think is the compiled version that you 
released for windows. That was before signal subtraction. It is possible that 
subtraction will change the statistics, but I’d be surprised if P_bad_decode 
changes by much.
