Yes, although we are much closer to being able to use the public Hamlib 
release.

Once Hamlib 3.0 is in mainstream Linux repos, MacPorts etc we can 
consider switching to dynamically linking Hamlib.

I am already working on a couple of Hamlib changes that will now be 
destined for Hamlib 3.0.1 or maybe even 3.1 so they may preclude dynamic 
linking since they may need to be applied as patches to Hamlib 3.0.0.

For now my fork integration branch and static linking is still in place.
