that's ok but I would rather not add yet another maintenance hazard. I'll consider it if I can't find an empirical way of avoiding them in the first place. Otherwise I should be able to come up with a fairly simple generic solution by comparing the whole byte array of the packed message rather than doing this at the individual field level.
