I am a Remote Ham Radio (RHR)( <http://www.remotehamradio.com>
www.remotehamradio.com) member. Recently, I had the urge to test WSJT-X
while connected to an RHR remote K3 using a K3/0 Mini and RRC-1258. I
assumed that the CAT and PTT ports that I use with N1MM Logger+ would work.
However, CAT control only works well enough to change the RX frequency and
switch to the SPLIT mode on 6 of 20 sites tested. It does not properly
change the TX frequency with "Split Operation" "Rig" or "Fake It" selected.
The RTS PTT method doesn't work on any of the stations. CAT PTT control is
very slow and doesn't allow audio to get to the remote transmitter in the
stated configuration.
The only way that RHR RRC-1258 users can properly actuate PTT and pass audio
to an RHR remote K3 is if the RTS PTT method works. I suspect that the
reason that it doesn't is that the usual FTDI drivers are not used for the
PTT port. The RRC-1258 provides four virtual ports over a single USB cable.
The driver file listed for each of the four virtual ports is usbser.sys,
while the driver files listed for a typical USB port are ftser2k.sys and
serenum.sys, which use ftcserco.dll and ftserui2.dll. This is on a x86
system.
I don't know how difficult it would be to address this issue, but RHR
members attempting to use WSJT-X would certainly appreciate it.
Please note that yesterday I discovered that the RTS PTT method works fine
when running JT65-HF. This allowed me to make my first JT65 QSO yesterday.
I also discovered that the RTS PTT method does not work with JT65-HF-HB9HQX.
Would you consider assistance from an N1MM Logger+ development team member
in addressing this issue as well as making the CAT routine more robust?
