It seems to me that changing the operation of the “tab 1” message list might go
a long way towards accommodating the non-standard messaging wanted for Field
Day and other situations - and probably enhance current functionality. I would
suggest:

1) Allow a “free form” field to be inserted in the Tx messages. The field could
be delineated by brackets (which would not transmitted), for instance, and
could be placed anywhere within the message.

2) Relabel the “next” selection targets to “do” targets and re-function so that
selected messages are those that are transmitted (top to bottom sequence as
now), while un-seleceted ones are skipped. The associated “tx message #” fields
would adjust to show the appropriate sequence number with un-selected showing
“skipped”.

3) A size (or available character space) indicator should be shown somewhere
with the message so that one could see whether message changes do not exceed tx
capability without having to count. This could be a number to indicate
remaining/available character space or just an entry limit (you can not enter
anything more after the limit).

Actually, suggestion 3 would be good regardless of whether any other changes
were made.
