Seeing that Zorin 12 is based on Ubuntu 16, installing the latest wsjt-x
should be fairly easy.
I would recommend adding a wsjtx repository - that way your outdated
wsjtx should hopefully get upgraded to the latest version.
This from the Zorin website (https://zorinos.com/help/install-apps/):
--------
*/INSTALL A REPOSITORY / PPA/*/
//Some app developers create a repository for their apps in Linux.
By adding a repository, new versions of the app automatically become
available as software updates.//
//
/*/Open the Zorin Menu and go to "Utilities" > "Terminal"./*/
//If the repository is hosted on Launchpad, you can simply add it to
your system by entering this command, replacing "developer" and
"repository-name" with the correct names for the app://
/*/sudo add-apt-repository ppa:developer/repository-name/**/
/*/(for wsjt-x, replace the above line with: *sudo
add-apt-repository ppa:ki7mt/wsjtx*)/*/
/*/
//Alternatively, some developers host their app repositories
themselves and provide their own instructions for how to add the
repository to your computer. Copy the commands from the developer's
instructions and paste them into the Terminal window.//
//
Refresh your app sources with this command://
/*/sudo apt update/*/
//
Apps from the new repository should now become available on your
system. When a new version of the app is released, it will appear in
the "Updates" tab in Software./
-------------
This should make the latest version of wsjt-x (from the ki7mt
repository) available for download/install, either using apt-get
terminal commands, or from the software center/store of your os.
Hope this may be of help.

Thanks for trying to help! Unfortunately none of this makes any

I was looking for a way to get out of Windows Update Hell and saw an
article about Zorin, which is supposed to be friendtly for Windows
guys. I installed it (easy) and started by downloading the Debian
version of WSJT-X. A perfectly functional-looking version of WSJT
opened up very nicely, but it was ancient - V1.1. Then tried to
install the windows version using Wine. No luck at all with that.
Glen,
try uninstalling the ancient WSJT-X, type this into a terminal:
sudo apt-get remove wsjtx
then follow the instructions in the WSJT-X User Guide to install the
later version.
