Today I would like to propose changes to the user manual, and to the
instructions for Fox/Hound modethat instruct the user to enter the frequencies
for the DXpedition.  This is an unnecessary complication in the way WSJT is
used.   I also propose a slight modification to WSJT that makes it easier for
the users to QSY with their radio knob, rather than using the frequency list
for DXpeditions.
The usefulness of the default Frequency List that is provided by the software
team is that the user can switch modes (like from FT8 to FT4) and bands easily,
and the WSJT software will change the frequency automatically via CAT on the
radio.
I don't know if the Software Team knows this, but a DX station can be easily
worked in F/H mode by turning the radio knob to their frequency, and without
relying on the Frequency List.   As long as CAT control is enabled, the QSO
proceeds perfectly.   I have made dozens of F/H QSOs like this since the Baker
Is expedition a year ago June.    Why do you need to enter their frequency into
the list?  This is unnecessary work, and clutters the Frequency List.   This
also comes into play during Field Day and during the ARRL RTTY Roundup, where
alternative frequencies need to be used.  No need to enter them into the list,
just spin the dial!   It is ridiculous to enter the vast range of frequencies
for the RTTY Roundup.
I posed a question why I shouldn't use the "spin the dial" approach to
frequencies a few months ago here.   The only reason I was told is that WSJT
inherently QSYs you back to the standard frequencies, like to 14074 for FT8.

I propose that the WSJT software stop QSYing to the standard freqs in all cases
EXCEPT band or mode change.   For example, when I go to a DXpedition's F/H
frequency with my dial, like 14090, I then switch from Normal to Hound mode.
At that point, WSJT QSYs my rig via CAT to 14074.   I think that most changes
in the settings menu do that QSY to the standard frequency.   I ask that this
QSY be removed from the WSJT software in all cases except band and mode changes.
To sum up, I propose:1.  Remove this practice of frequency entry for
alternative frequencies from the user guide, and the F/H instructions.2.  Make
the software change to remove unnecessary QSYs back to standard frequencies
I think that the WSJT users will appreciate the KISS approach on this.
Thank you for your consideration,
Tim N6GP
