John, Okay , I think I'm catching on here . Then maybe what I should do is leave Fake It checked even in standard FT8 mode . Then when going to F/H , check only the box in advanced .

I've not tested with my friend across town yet but I think the problem I was having was when in (Rig) only the WSJT freq was changing ... Now that I'm in (Fake It) I see both WSJT and the Flex changing Freq .

I've been using (rig) for the past 1.5 years and thought I was transmitting where the red goalie was until I ask a friend why he was on my freq Now I'm (Red faced) .. I hope Fake It is the fix .

Thanks for ur post , Ed N5DG

Ed,

I hope I get this right.  With either Fake It (which I use with my 6700) or Rig, WSJT is doing some math to keep your audio frequency in the middle of the  Tx audio bandpass.  That is where there is the least likelihood of distortion.  To do that it either adds or subtracts from the VFO frequency  on your radio when you transmit  to keep you centered in the Tx bandpass.  On the receive end your audio frequency comes out wherever you placed the Red bucket..  You can see the VFO frequency shift by watching the VFO frequency display on the Flex when you Tx and go back to base on Rx.

It all works, it is just a little different.  I think of the VFO frequency as the base frequency.  What matters is the audio frequency - the number you see on the Wide Graph.  I use DXKeeper and what actually gets logged is the base frequency plus the audio frequency (I think)   I made a 15m FT8 Q yesterday and what was logged as the Tx frequency was 21.076131.  The base frequency was 21.074 and I must have been on 2131 which makes sense because I usually hang out above 2000 (less interference).

Hope that helps

John

I posted this on the Flex Community but wanted to ask here too

    Question while using FT8 F/H , I'm using the Flex 6600 with
Slicemaster to execute WSJT.  This morning while calling  T6AA my
dial freq on the flex was 7.070.00 F/H . I go into the WSJT
settings and tick Hound plus check the square box, then under
Radio I check  Rig and OK . I get the red flag  stating I"m in
    Hound mode . I'm copying T6AA at 495 Hz , I set the red TX at 2002
Hz ... Now when I transmit  I see the WSJT freq shift from
7.070.000 to 7.070.500 ... All this looks as it should up to this
    point !

    Here's the part I don't understand . I stopped transmitting long
enuf to be sure I'm on a clear freq , What I see big signal on my
TX freq 2002 HZ . The op was a friend of mine who was on the
ON4KST low band chat . I tell him we are both transmitting on 2002
HZ . My friend and others all agree that I'm not on 2002 Hz , that
they decode me at 1502 HZ . I move my Red TX to 2502 Hz and ask
the group where they decode me now ? They all agree I'm still on
    1502 HZ .

If this is the way it's supposed to work , I fine this strange ?
to be sure I'm TXing on a clear freq I have to subtract 500 or
1000 Hz from where I place my Red goalie ... Or is something setup
    wrong somewhere ?

    Thanks Ed N5DG
