If you're running an older rigctld backwards compatibility was broken and has
been fixed.
For now you should be able to use rigctld-wsjtx in WSJT-X which should always
work together.

Another test:
If i set rig as icom7300, device /dev/icom7300 (that is my symlinked serial
port) and serial settings ok wsjtx 2.2.0rc1 works.
But if I connect to background running rigctld using rig: Net Hamlib rigctld
wsjtx2.2.0rc1 does not work. Older version 2.1.2 works ok then.
Seems like the background running rigctld could not pass through some
information that is needed by new wsjtx. (Hamlib is version 4)
If I telnet to background running rigctld and give "f" command I get:
14074000
VFOA
And it is VFOA always. (that is known feature that icom can not return used
vfo)
dump_caps from background running rigctld looks to be ok (long list of ic7300,
I do not paste it here now when not requested)
But somehow this new 2.2.0rc1 does not like rig model #2 Net Rigctld
