I guess you are referring to the DT value on the widegraph.  A value is
printed to the screen after each decode period.  On noise, or a signal too
weak to gain sync from, the value will be random (within certain limits).

If the signal is strong enough to gain sync, but not decode, then the value
should correspond within about 0.1s to EME delay + any receiver latency
(assuming PC clocks are correct both ends).

Have you tried using the Q65_sync plot on the widegraph?  This can also be
used as an indication that a signal may be present, although it does also
show up birdies to some extent.
