That's exactly my problem. I do not know in advance how long the
transport will take. 

I have to admit that I do not know what MEP is. What I mean is that
the client and the server are loosely coupled. The client should be
able to send requests even if the server offering the web service is
down. Whenever the server is back up, the queue will be
processed. Thus there may be some rather long time (e.g. 4 hours)
before the request is processed.

Any hints?
