Another implementation is described in [art.sy blog](http://artsy.github.io/blog/2012/02/03/reliably-testing-asynchronous-ui-w-slash-rspec-and-capybara/). I guess if watir-webdriver supports DOM-based waiting out-of-the-box, that might be handy.
