Servusl Rü ________________________________________ To all National Organisations We are very happy and proud to announce that WFDF and BULA have worked together on a new Spirit of the Game scoring system. Maintaining the Spirit is the key for us and having a system that correctly ranks and teaches Spirit allows us to further grow the sport while keeping the Spirit intact. The new system got its foundation from the system that BULA launched in 2006 (which has its roots in a system from Montreal). The system was further improved thanks to feedback from the Ultimate community worldwide and the work of Chris Schneider, Christian Jennewein, Dan Engstrom, David Raflo, Kolja Sulimma, Momme Butenschön, Natalie Visser, Patrick van der Valk, Paul Bernier, and Rue Veitl. Scoring is now based on judging Respect, Fairness, Positive Attitude, Emotional Management, Rules Knowledge, and Physical Contact. Teams are also asked to reflect on their own Spirit. Two SOTG scoring sheets plus a goal scoring sheet on the same page: http://beachultimate.org/SOTG_v2008_3.pdf The system was tested at the European Championships Beach Ultimate a few weeks ago and the feedback has been extremely positive. Please help us encourage all tournament and league directors to use this system and get feedback from the players to see what they think about it. This system for example allows the TD to give notice to a team if they repeatedly received "poor" grades in a certain category thus allowing to improve the overall spirit while the tournament is ongoing. This system also sets a standard and if used worldwide if will suddenly make sense to publish the spirit score totals of a tournament which is something we are aiming for, too. To us it is not only important to see who has won the "Spirit Prize" but rather to see how the spirit of every team is. Teams which end up with a high score can be proud of their spirit even if they did not win the prize. Teams which end up with a low score can reflect on it and do something about it.
