I have inserted into my config file the details from the 'don't get'
list from the wwwoffle web page. On the whole it seems to work. But I
have come across a problem in that when I try to access a couple of
sites offline (or even online) wwwoffle returns a message saying 'host
not got' because the requested url (for an ad) is on the list of paths
etc not to be fetched. The only way I have been able to get round this
is to remove the relevant entry from the 'don't get' list.
What is happening here? Is the request from the web page somehow
insisting that the requested url be fetched and refusing to load
otherwise? But Netscape 4.5 itself then locks up and I have to abort it
and reload. Or is this a Netscape problem or even a wwwoffle problem?
The problem is not fatal because I casn always remove the relevant
suppression entry from the 'don't get' list but it does seem to defeat
the whole purpose of the list.
An example of where this problem has arisen is with
lwn.net/bigpage.phtml.
