2.6b and compression was enabled in that version too.
Moreover the pages in question are newly fetched. I did not notice any
problem with old pages. I know, that the 'Content-Encoding' header is
causing the problem, because when I deleted that line from the D-File in
the cache, Netscape would render the page just fine. The html-code in the
D-File was not compressed. So what I have in my cache is an uncompressed
file with a header that says it's compressed.

I used wwwoffle-read, but wwwoffle -O shows the Content-Encoding: x-gzip
just as well. Since noone else has these problems, it is probably some
misconfiguration on my side. I will have a closer look on this and do what
you suggested.
