In response to a previous request for help, the following entries,
directed at WWWOFFLE traffic, were added to my list of ipchains
rules:

/sbin/ipchains -A input -i lo --dport 8080:8081 -p tcp -j ACCEPT
/sbin/ipchains -A input --dport 8080:8081 -p tcp -j DENY -l

And they have worked very well.

However, I note with regret that ipchains are scheduled to be phased out
and will be replaced with iptables. Iptables does things quite
differently and my, still sketchy, understanding of ipchains is of
little relevance.

I am sending this request for assistance to configure iptables for use
in conjunction with WWWOFFLE in the belief that there are other readers
of this list who would also welcome an authoritative answer to this
query.
