Perhaps add lasttrash prevtrash1 2 ... directories, where the former copy of any page that is being replaced can be moved. This perhaps could be the easiest way to implement a safety net within the current wwwoffle framework, giving the user a chance to rescue an older version of a page he is upset about the changes to, or even disappearance of.
Advice about what the user would do, wwwoffle-mv or whatever, to 'rescue' a page from the lasttrash, prevtrash1 ... dirs, could be put on those index pages, or a link from those pages ... that we can discuss later. The important thing is to implement them next release: with a mere moving the D* and U* files of a page being updated, instead of deleting them, we can finally give wwwoffle sorely needed minimal safety net protection! When some net-blurp somewhere replaces your monster Unicode master table with a 1x1 .gif, no sweat, just check in lasttrash, prevtrash1 ... Worried that you wont notice until it falls of the end at prevtrash7 or whatever? No fret, just adjust the prevtrash limit to 47 or whatever.
