I seem to be having another problem with wwwoffle. This has only
happened recently, since I upgraded to 2.8c, but this may be
coincidence, switching back to the 2.8b daemon didn't seem to help.
(I didn't change the conf file back, but I can't see any differences,
not did I take the "-l" flag off.)

What has happened in that when reading news.bbc.co.uk I suddenly seen to
be losing several pictures or getting just half a picture - and
refreshing has no effect.

Even worse if when I'm online and I request a large page that is already
in the cache, it goes to refetch it and then gives just a part of it
(perhaps a screenful or just over). Again refreshing has no effect.
But if I refresh after going offline I get "Remote Host Error", followed
by a screen saying that the remote host failed to send data within the
timeout period and that refreshing again will display the cached data,
which it does. This seems consistent in that fetching the same page
again next time I'm online produces the same result. (I think fetching
large new pages also fails in a similar manner, except there is no
cached page to fall back to. However I haven't explored this as
deeply.)

I should add that the timeouts in wwwoffle.conf are the defaults -
socket 120, dns 60, connect 30 - and that the failure happens within
seconds. I don't think those timeouts are near being reached.

Thinking back the only other change I've made recently has been to give
up using the Demon cache - too many sites were failing completely. I
can't remember when I did that, but I think it was longer ago. Perhaps
I should try Demon again with a longer connect timeout. In any case for
many sites, particularly if interactive or close and including the BBC,
I went direct not through Demon's cache.

I don't know whether this is my fault or a bug, but either way I would
appreciate some help. It is getting rather troublesome.
