If matrix libraries were available, I'm sure they would be widely used. 

Another related thing to consider is some form of rule-based math library
with capabilities similar to the BigDecimal and BigInteger classes in java.
These are extremely useful for science, but not fully developed (such as
into math functions). The Java implementation is also quite slow. However,
it is a wonderful thing to be able to do math with actual numbers (avoiding
bit conversion errors), automatic checks for underflow and overflow, and
virtually unlimited precision. A language with those capabilities at fast
speeds would be highly competitive.

Hi, Ganesh,

Questions of this sort are better asked on the X10 users list.

We were not planning to include any matrix/vector classes in the X10
standard libraries, though they were mentioned in some discussions.
They are reasonably easy to implement at the user level.  Are you
referring simply to abstract types with the right behavior, or are
you interested specifically in bindings to a BLAS library?
