I have been having trouble with cut/paste to/from X11 (xterm, as an example) since upgrading to High Sierra from Lion about a week ago. I appear to get a bunch of lines, but if I do this in vim (gvim once I get vim to compile with the GUI), and then use a CTRL-L to refresh the screen, I can see that nothing was actually pasted into the screen at all.
In Lion, I had a program I found called autocutsel that sat in the background and got it to work seemlessly 100% of the time, but it’s no longer working (no doubt needs an upgraded version for High Sierra). This appears to be the same instability between the X11 pasteboard and the clipboard that’s been around at least as far back as Lion. The options in XQuartz are all setup for this to work, but it doesn’t. Does anyone have any suggestions? I use this constantly, and need it to work again. (One example that applies right now is using “editors” like this one in Mac Mail. I do the editing in either vim or gvim to make sure I don’t have excessive line lengths (you never know if these things are going to format it properly or leave you with huge line lengths, e.g. one-line paragraphs). I can only assume that it will format it correctly here. If anyone knows of a fix that works in High Sierra, please let me know. This is HIGHLY aggravating. Btw, does anyone know how to turn off the spelling error inserter in Mac Mail when you’ve already turned it off in preferences? It’s still changing words on me (e.g., xterm got changed to terms) and I have to erase and re-type each time….
