Hello everyone,

I badly need XQuartz to work so that I can use XPP (a math modeling program)
for a grad school class. I have spent about five hours Googling this problem
and searching through BugZilla. I am running Mac OS High Sierra (10.13.6).
XQuartz is refusing to launch properly. It is working for other Mac users I
have spoken with.

When I try to launch XQuartz.app by searching for it, I get “The app… can’t be
opened.” When I open the X11 file from Terminal, XQuartz stays open for a
couple of seconds — I can see the menu — and then it’s gone. When I try to
open XQuartz by clicking on it, I see the animation of the icon expanding,
indicating that the app should be opening, and then nothing happens.

I have looked in my diagnostic reports folder for a crash log, but as far as I
can tell, none has been generated.

On HS I find I can start XQuartz by opening Terminal, navigating to /Applications/Utilities/XQuartz/Contents/MacOS/ and running X11 from the command line.

I've meant to ask about it here, but I only use HS one day a week at a client's site.
