I would like to report of my impossibility to run XQuartz 2.8.1 on my MBP16,
intel, macOS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62).

I got the same behaviour installing XQuartz with brew or by downloading and
installing the *.dmg.

Specifically, I have seen that

- launching Xquartz upon clicking on the app icon (or by invoking
/opt/X11/bin/xquartz from Terminal.app or iTerm2.app) does not work. These
actions do result in launching the process that becomes visible on the Activity
Monitor, but this process only lasts 5-10s and then it dies.

Launching "xeyes", "xterm" or (any) another app requiring X11 does relaunch
Xquartz. However nothing happens after that: the specific app hang and does not
respond. I see that the $DISPLAY variable gets initialised (e.g. to
/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.uERODEzS1s/org.xquartz:0). In this case the
process xquartz stays in the background.

No error message is displayed in the terminal or in the Console.app log files.

I have spotted some x11 libraries in /opt/local, presumably installed via brew
(but related to other applications). I ignore whether this might be the reason
for a conflict.

I am very sad as I can't use the NEURON simulator GUI or any other X11 software
on my Mac.

Thank you for any possible suggestion.
Michele

P.S. I have opened an issue on GitHub was was told by jeremyhu I should instead
ask on the x11-users mailing list.
