xpath (simple) rewriting

Dear all,

Can I use anything in org.apache.xpath to get some simplification of simple
xpath expressions? Expression evaluation is not an issue.

i.e.

/A/C | /A/C/descendant::C

would rewrite to

/A/descendant::C
