There are no books specifically about Xalan, but a few about XSLT,
with more on the way.

First, check the "Getting up to speed" section of
http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/overview.html
for leads on third-party tutorials and books.

I hope to get some new leads put in there quite soon.
