Are you able to reproduce the problem using a different JRE? The kind of non-deterministic behavior that you describe indicates a possible problem in the JRE. It may be that 2.5.2 generates a sequence of VM instructions that Jrockit tries to optimize, but fails to do so in some cases. Just a thought.
