I ran into the very same problem with XalanJ 2.6.0.

This "bug"/limitation seems to be (partly?) a duplicate of 2664 , which is
closed for no apparent reason, and it is not clear what has actually been
"fixed" in 2001.

It would, however, be nice to include a hint what method/template actually
causes the problems, and has to be split. I have a 13 k sized XSL, which
includes a bunch of other XSL files, totalling about 130 kB, with various
templates...
