No promises. I think the basic DOM is somewhat safe under read. I doubt the
deferred DOM is, since by its nature it grows as you access it.

(The DOM WG explicitly decided that this was an implementation issue and
that we didn't even want to suggest that DOMs be made inherently
threadsafe. Locking on every single DOM operations could burn a lot of
cycles, and in most cases folks who are concerned about threadsafety really
need to lock on much higher-level document manipulations, such as a full
XPath or record-update -- which would make threadsafety at the DOM level
redundant.)
