Subject: Performance of XPathAPI, selectSingleNode()

HI!

I am using Xalan 2.2D11 from the current Sun XML package fall release, together with Crimson under JDK 1.3.1_01.

I have seen several XSLT benchmarks where Xalan looks not bad compared with MSXML3. When it's slower, then it's max. 2 times slower. But sometimes it's even faster.

So, I made a little test with the XPathApi to see how selectSingleNode() compares between Xalan and MSXML3 (using the JacoZoom COM bridge).

I was a bit shocked as I saw that MSXML3 is 200 times faster!

Anyone any idea how that can be?

Thanks!

Regards,
Thomas
