You can always ask Xalan itself which version is loaded by using the org.apache.xalan.Version class. It has a main() so it can be called from the command line, or you can use its API from within a program.
Or you can run Shane's environment-reporting stylesheet, whose name I have completely forgotten again <blush/>...
