Are you using interpretive Xalan, or XSLTC? I believe there may be a
document size limit in XSLTC, due to differences in how the DTM is being
managed... but interpretive *should* be intelligently trading off the DTM
address space.

(For those who don't know: the current architecture allocates 2**16 DTM
IDs, each of which accesses up to 2**16 nodes in the document model. Each
DTM ID refers to a specific document, though a document may span multiple
DTM IDs. This basically allows us to trade off number of documents versus
size of document; we can address 2**16 small documents simultaneously
loaded, or one document of 2**32 nodes, or most points between those
extremes. That *should* be enough that most folks will will run out of RAM
and swap space long before you run out of DTM IDs, though there may be a
few exceptions.)
