Where's the server (URL, getCapabilities) for OSM? Is the dataset available so that it might be served up using another server w/ tiling and BB capabilities,
like MapServer?

http://hypercube.telascience.org/tiles/?service=WMS&request=GetCapabilities

(There are severeal CNAMES in the DNS for this host)

I'm not sure how the rendering is done, but I believe that between the renderer
and the client is a tilecache instance. If I am not mistaken the mapnik
renderer takes as input the planet.osm file and can be plugged into tilecache.
If I had to guess I'd say this is how it is being done, but the folks at
telascience would know for certain.

There are other layers besides there, OpenStreetMap on top of OpenAerialMap
works nicely in Xastir.

Cheers,
